Activities
Research and development in science and technology of mineral-based products such as glass, ceramic, and inorganic binders
Facilities
A wide range of equipments including mills, mixers, lazer particle size analyzer, furnaces, extruders, dryers, etc
Mineral-based products such as glass, ceramic, inorganic binders, etc, belong to an important part of chemical industries. The importance of this part of industry is due to its inevitable role in construction and development of human societies. The progressive development of mineral processing industries in the country has necessitated more and more relevant research activities. The mineral processing research laboratory benefiting from the presence of two academy members and a wide range of equipments provides facilities required to carry out research projects both for academic and industrial purposes. Till now (April 2009), this laboratory has resulted in a number of different outcomes including 10 patents, almost 100 papers in national and international periodicals and conferences, 27 research projects, and about 60 M.Sc. and Ph.D. research projects.
Typical Research Topics
o Natural pozzolan based-geopolymer cement
o Low cost green cement using supplementary cementing materials
o Alkali-activated slag cement
o Utilizing RFCC spent catalyst as a cement additive
o Pet-coke as an alternative fuel in Portland cement production
o Ceramic glazes, engobes, enamel, pigments
o Antibacterial glazes
o Titanium dioxides of different structures
o Nano-pigments for ink jet application
o Glass-flakes for special coatings
o Nano-bentonites of different structures
