Abstract

Accurate and reliable time is necessary for financial and legal transactions, transportation, distribution systems, and many other applications. Time synchronization protocols such as NTP (the Network Time Protocol) have kept clocks of such applications synchronized to each other for many years. Nowadays there are many commercial GPS based NTP time server products at the market but they almost have a high price. In this paper we are going to use a low cost GPS engine to build a time server to provide time synchronization with accuracy of a few milliseconds. This time server is relatively very cheap and it can be used in almost all typical applications. We also proposed a software based NTP time server implemented in MATLAB as well.

Abstract

In this paper, we extend the sliding mode idea to a class of unmatched uncertain variable structure systems. This method is achieved with introducing a new terminal sliding variable and the finite time stability of proposed method is proved using a new particular finite time condition in both reaching and sliding phases. In reaching phase new sliding mode controller is derived to guarantee the finite time stability of sliding surface with considering matched uncertainty. Also in sliding phase, because of introducing a new terminal sliding variable, the finite time stability of state variables with considering unmatched uncertainty has been guarantee. Therefore in proposed algorithm we are able to adjust reaching and sliding times in the presences of both matched and unmatched uncertainty. This algorithm is applied to designing control law for a moving cart system with bounded matched and unmatched uncertainties. Simulation results show the effectiveness and robustness of the proposed algorithm.

Abstract

In this paper, a new guidance law is designed to improve the performance of a homing missiles guidance system in terminal phase. For this purpose first of all, the two dimensions equations of motion are formulated, then the approximation dynamic of missile control loop is added to these equations which are nonlinear whit unmatched uncertainty. Then, a new adaptive back-stepping method is developed in order to control this system. An adaptive term is used in the control law that is converged to the uncertainty. This convergence is proved based on Lyapunov stability theorem. Therefore using this adaptive term in the control law can be eliminated the uncertainty. Based on this algorithm, a new guidance law is designed. Then its performance is compared with common guidance laws in a guidance loop simulation in the presence of control loop dynamics.

Abstract

Ensuring the protection of all components within power systems from lightning-induced overvoltage is crucial. The issue of power interruptions caused by both direct and indirect lightning strikes (LS) presents significant challenges in the electrical sector. In medium voltage distribution feeders, the relatively low dielectric strength makes them susceptible to insulation degradation, which can ultimately lead to failures in the distribution system. Therefore, implementing effective protective measures against LS is vital for maintaining an acceptable level of reliability in distribution systems. This paper presents an analytical assessment of LS-induced system overvoltage through high-frequency modeling of components within a 20kV distribution system. The study utilizes EMTP-RV software for precise component modeling, including the grounding system, surge arresters, and distribution feeders. Additionally, the operational impacts of protective devices, such as ZnO surge arresters, shield wires, and lightning rods, are evaluated to mitigate LS-induced overvoltage. A frequency grounding system is implemented using the method of moments (MOM) to analyze the grounding system's influence on LS-induced overvoltage. Furthermore, eight different scenarios are explored to assess the anti-LS capabilities of the 20kV distribution system. Each scenario involves evaluating dielectric breakdown and overvoltage across the insulator chain while proposing suitable protective solutions. The results indicate that the absence of shielding wires and surge arresters leads to higher breakdown voltages, with the lowest breakdown voltage occurring when surge arresters are installed during LS events. Additionally, the use of a frequency grounding system, due to its accurate modeling, yields more precise results compared to a static resistor approach. The MOM simulation reveals a 50% reduction in breakdown voltage under the worst-case scenario, and overall overvoltage experiences a 2% decrease.
