Tooveh bridge is a railway masonry arch bridge located on Km 593+100 of Iranian railway network, and has been in service for more than 70 years. It consists of two long spans of 30m and four small spans of 10m, totaling a length of 130 meters. The bridge is located in a curved section of the bridge with a radius of 300 meters. It accomodates a single track with an axle load of 20 tons and a maximum operational speed of 60 Km/h. Track's superstructure consists of U33 rails, steel sleepers, and fixed fasteners.
Summary of results:
According to serviceability assessment results, some points on the bridge are not capable of withstanding the standard loading pattern of Iranian standard code with an axle load of 22.5 tons. Ultimate limit state analyses results in a loading factor of 1.73 for the structure. Moreover, it is shown that retrofitting of the structure is required, since piers are not capable of withstanding earthquake forces.
