Km 23 railway bridge load test (masonry concrete arch bridge

Client : IRAN Railway Research Center

Consultant : The Educational chancellor of the School of Technology, the

  University of Tehran

Contractor : Dr. Mohammad Sadegh Ma’refat

Km 23 Railway Bridge is located in Tehran-Ghom old railway track. It was constructed more than 60 years ago and has two 20-meter spans (Picture 2). The type of the structure is unreinforced concrete arch bridge. Both static and dynamic tests were conducted on the bridge to evaluate the load carrying capacity. In the static test, the bridge was loaded by 728 tons of distributed load. Then, the deflection of the loaded span was measured by 7 electronic LVDT. And the dynamic test was carried out by passing a six-axle 120-ton diesel over the bridge with the nominal speeds of 10 to 80 km/h.
