Preface
Biotechnology, the most important technology of the 21st century, is a key element of the global economy in the next few decades and hence development of biotechnology has become the focus of many countries. It has become a growing field all over the world due to its industrial applications in diverse areas such as food, agriculture, livestock and poultry breeding, medical, environment, mining, and energy in addition to production of high value-added products.
Due to the importance of this technology, the school of Chemical, Petrochemical and Gas Engineering (IUST), in line with the coordinated movement of the country for improvement of the scientific level and technical knowledge in biotechnology, established its biotechnology research laboratory in the year 2001. This lab has been a workplace for the conduct of biotechnology research projects by faculty members as well as research and educational activities of the students of chemical engineering majoring in biotechnology. Collaborations with other disciplines and pilot scale studies are also among the programs planned for this lab.
