Special Report on the Afagh Research Center (Electromagnetic Health) The SAR laboratory, part of the Afagh Research Center at Iran University of Science and Technology is currently the main center of many standardized testing for electromagnetic health, specifically the effects of devices, such as cellphones, on the brain. This laboratory is growing rapidly. Citizens are exposed to various electromagnetic radiations through devices in workplaces and residences, which include cordless phones, cellphones, radio and television waves, and cellphone companies established near residential areas. The frequentinstallations of BTS antennas by cellphone companies, the installation of different radio and television antennas, and the installation of receiver systems such as Wimax are all urgent reasons to consider. It is important to measure constant radiationsfrom these antennas, and compare them with current standards. Institutions that in one way or another deal with heavy radiation waves, such asradio and tv broadcasting, radar centers and companies with high amperage systems, such as military bases, iron, steel, copper and aluminum industries all require accuracy in creating safe havens for workers. Electromagnetic energy is radiated from radio systems; tissue cells absorb them, and if the amount exceeds the proper limit, it can create serious injuries on tissue cells exposed to radiations. The matter is worst for regular users of the system. It is therefore necessary to determine the exact electromagnetic fields and systems in the environment that come in constant contact with the human body, followed by the intake of allowed electromagnetic energy in living tissues, and the method of measuring the specific absorption rate (SAR) of all radio machines, fixed and mobile. Electromagnetic health is a very crucial branch of knowledge, which determines allowed radiation, and focuses specifically on citizen health in places exposed to electromagnetic waves. The Afagh Research Center at IUST is proud to continue the research in this area. Currently, this center is under the management of Professor Cheldavi.
