Ceremony for the beginning of the new academic year On Sunday, September 17 and with the presence of the Administrative Board, and faculty members of IUST at the Imam Khomeini Cultural Complex, the new academic year 2012-13 was officially started. In the ceremony Dr. Jabalameli, chancellor of IUST, respected the beginning of the new academic year and congratulated the auspicious birth of Imam Reza (AS) and Hazrat Masoumeh (AS) (the eighth Imam of Shiayan and His Sister) and the “Ten Days of Generosity”. He also presented a concise report of the university operation and mentioned the “strategic plan of university” in the years 2007 and 2011 and said that the university is now ready to enter a more idealistic stage. In his report, the chancellor pointed out some of the achievements of the “first strategic plan” such as changing the student admission pyramid from %48 graduate students in the year 2009 to %58 in 2010 and an anticipation of %65 for 2015, and changing the faculty members pyramid from %28 associate professors and higher ranks in the year 2005 (the beginning of the strategic plan) to %43 in 2011 and an anticipation of %56 for 2015. Mentioning the research achievements Dr. Jabalameli said: the indexed articles presented by the faculty members were %4 per capita in 2005 that was promoted to 2 in 2011 and it is anticipated to reach 3 per capita in 2015. Also the ISC ( Islamic World Science Citation Center) articles presented by the faculty members were 1.4 articles in 2011 that should promote to 2.5 articles per capita in 2015. In addition there were 1500 article citations reported in 2011 and it is predicted that to promote to 4500 citations in 2015. He also said: at present there is 1 ISI journal published in the university that should promote to 5 journals in 2015. The Centers of Excellence were 3 in 2005, and 8 in 2011, and it is anticipated that to promote to 13 Centers in 2015. IUST Chancellor mentioned the scientific macro-management as an external opportunity, and the processes and structure’s reengineering, utilization of the research capacity created, and conducting the theses’ subjects toward the research priorities as the new and vital internal challenges for the university. |
