The National Conference on Preparation for WSIS+10 Summit 2015 (WSIS-Iran-2012)

The National committee for WSIS decided to hold an annual national conference. After determining the goals and objectives of the conference, it was called “The National Conference on Preparation for WSIS+10 Summit 2015 (WSIS-Iran-2012)”. The conference is co-organized by ITO and IUST.
The objectives of the conference were:
- Investigating the challenges in the decision-making procedure for 2015.
- Describing national actions and achievements in the field of information society.
- Investigating the records and reports of completed activities with respect to indexes of information society.
- Monitoring and following up on receiving information from workgroups.
- Updating action programs across governmental organizations and the private sector aimed at achieving the WSIS Targets.
- Creating a national synergy in the field of information society.
- Creating of opportunity to enhance the capabilities of companies and non-governmental organizations in the field of information society.
Iran Country Workshop on WSIS
ILO, Geneva, as a part of WSIS Forum2012; 26 May 2012
The workshop, which is scheduled by ITU in WSIS Forum 2012, was conducted by director of IUST ICT-SIS. The panelists who invited from government and private sectors of Iran, report some of the mega-projects in Iran in which the WSIS Targets and Action Lines have been supported. The workshop has offered a general view from Iran’s situation in the information society.
First Conference on Information Technology Industry and GDP

In this conference of experts, 80 Iranian information technology’s experts in four reference groups (academics, policy-makers, technology specialists and service providers) invited to talk about the results of the Delphi questionnaires that were designed for determining different aspects of the drivers of information technology industry that may increase the share of IT industry in Gross Domestic Gross (GDP) in Iran. The future study methodology were applied in designing the questionnaires and a electronic Delphi software system was developed to gather the views of the experts involved in the projects over the web. In this conference firstly an open discussion were conducted about the previous results and secondly a new set of questionnaires distributed among the attendees and their view were collected to find the most efficient strategies and actions regarding the selected set of drivers.
Preparation for Regional Conference on WSIS2015

An annual national conference which is called “The National Conference on Preparation for WSIS+10 Summit 2015”, are scheduled by Iran National Committee for WSIS. As conference schedule it would be hold on February or March, except the years that another regional or international relating event to be held in Iran, results in merging both events.
The second conference held in conjunction with First Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) Ministerial Meeting on Information and Communication Technology (ICT) on November 2012, at Saad-Abad Complex Tehran , Iran.
The workshop contained two sessions. The first one was conducted by Mr. Ali Hakimjavadi, Deputy Minister of ICT and Chairman of Information Technology Organization of Iran (ITO), Mr. Ali Asghar Ansari, Vice Chairman of ITO and Dr. Hadi Shahriar Shahhoseini director of ICT-SIS and director of Information Technology Group of EE Department in Iran University of Science and Technology (IUST). In this session the WSIS experience of Islamic Republic of Iran are introduced to ECO member States delegations.
In the second part that was conducted by Mr. Ansari (from ITO), and Dr. Shahhoseini (from IUST), the challenges for national WSIS activities in 2013 was discussed by Domestic IT mangers from governmental and private Sector who was invited and attended in the workshop.
Information Technology Industry and GDP in world Economic Crisis: Drivers and future landscape

While the global economic crisis severely affected the economy of all developed and developing countries, many industries such as construction industry and airline industry have been plunge into record operating losses, but the industry of information and communication technology (ICT) continued to grow, though slightly. ICT affects the economy as an industry and as facilitator of other industries, so it may be one of the most important technologies in economy crisis.
In this workshop, the drivers of information technology (IT) industry that increase the gross domestic product (GDP) are focused on. The trends in the industry of IT and its influence on the GDP in developed and developing countries in the global economic crisis are discussed. The new technologies in field of IT such as broadband, economy in developed and developing countries, and the effect of the governmental policy on the subject are reviewed. Finally the results of a future study research about the matter in Iran that was carried out by ICT-SIS, has been reported.
Dr. H. Toure, the Secretary General of ITU, attends in the workshop and the end, after a short talk about the importance of the subject of workshop, appreciates the organizer and panelists.

The workshop, which is scheduled by ITU in WSIS Forum 2013, was conducted by director of IUST ICT-SIS. The panelists report some of Iran’s main activities and achievements in WSIS Action-lines beside with their challenges. The workshop tries to offer a general view from Iran’s situation in the ICT made by governmental and private sector in past years; and presents Iran progress toward the WSIS goals.
Iran National Committee for WSIS Monthly Workgroups Sessions

To coordinate the WSIS activities in Iran and to have an effective role in the process towards the World Summit on the Information Society in 2015, the National Committee for WSIS are established by Information Technology Organization of Iran (ITO) in 2011. The establishment of the committee was consequence of performing a research project entitled “Research Study and Preparation of International Strategic Documents for the Information Society” that was carried out by Iran University of Science and Technology (IUST). The committee members are representatives of governmental organizations as well as nongovernmental and private sector and WSIS experts.
Two main workgroups were created in the Iran National Committee for WSIS: the Strategic Planning workgroup and the Targets and Action Lines Coordination workgroup. The committee has some subsidiary workgroups in the organizations that are active in pursuing related WSIS Action Lines.
The committee’s monthly sessions have been conducted by ICT-SIS as Program Chair and Secretariat Office of Iran National Committee for WSIS and a series of presentations are offered by ICT-SIS researchers in the sessions. The last session was held on 9 December 2013 which the representative of governmental organizations reports their recent activities in the field of WSIS.

The Iran National Committee for WSIS decided to hold an annual national conference which is called “The National Conference on Preparation for WSIS+10 Summit 2015”. The conference has been aimed to collect the last achievement of government and private sector in the WSIS Action Lines and help to create national synergy in the field of information society. Two annual conferences were held since 2012, and the third one is planned for 28 January 2014.
